Choosing Your Lasik Doctor

Although Lasik surgery is considered a reputable vision correction procedure, the extent of the success depends on you and the Lasik doctor that you choose. They might be all licensed to do Lasik procedures but, like in any profession, some Lasik surgeons are better than others. That’s why it’s important to do a background check on several Lasik eye doctors before deciding on the one who you want to entrust your vision to.

As a patient, you have the right to ask qualifying questions to potential Lasik surgeons. Don’t be shy to ask your eye doctor some upfront questions; -don’t easily believe to what his or her Lasik institution is flaunting.

Here are some qualifying questions you should ask a Lasik eye doctor before you say yes to his or her service.

1. How long has he or she been performing Lasik procedures. You want to look for experience. A doctor that has been in the Lasik operation business for not less than three years is always better than those that are there for some months or a year.

2. How many Lasik surgeries have he or she has performed. You can put your mind at ease if the eye doctor says he or she has performed more than 500 procedures thus far. Experience is still the best teacher even for Lasik doctors.

3. What equipments is he or she going to use on your eyes. You want to look for reputable machines which are FDA approved and have been in the business for the longest amount of time. The machine itself must me relatively new also. You can do your research on the Web regarding which Lasik machines are tainted when it comes to reputation and which are not.

4. What percentage of his or her patients has received 20/20, or better, vision after the surgery. You should be happy if the Lasik surgeon says 60 percent, and if he gives even higher figure, ask for some proof.

If the eye doctor is reputable and experienced in his craft, you could rest your mind knowing that your vision is well taken care of. Don’t fail to interview several Lasik doctors before deciding on THE one. It’s also a good idea to ask for referrals from friends who have Lasik operation done or from your family doctor even.
